In every facility — hospitals, warehouses, hotel properties — there are people whose job is partly to know where expensive equipment is. Most of the time, they don't. The system says bay 3. It hasn't been in bay 3 for six weeks. So they walk the floor, ask around, make calls. They eventually find it. Then they don't update the record because they're already late for the next thing.
Asset tracking programs don't fail because the technology is bad. They fail because updating a record is harder than ignoring it. The moment the friction of compliance exceeds the friction of winging it, people wing it. Every time. The software vendors respond by adding more features. We responded differently: make the right action take two taps.
